I remember strumming out of tune chords on a 5-string guitar while Jared calmly, yet furiously, plucked away at a broken acoustic bass on the 15th floor of his condo overlooking downtown Reno.

“How about ‘Bat Country’?” I suggest. A name I’d been toying with for a long time. Jared didn't seem to care one way or the other, thus, Bat Country was born.

After playing a last minute set with our heroes, Ramshackle Glory, coupled with the encouragement of Pat ‘The Bunny’, we decided to take a stab at being something other than two stoners jamming silly tunes in a one room high-rise.

Time passes. We began to sharpen up our sound, still jamming mind you, with our good friends Patrick, Jace, and Cactus Head. I will never forget the amazingly surreal feeling of witnessing my simple folk songs turn into something I could never imagine doing by myself. For this, I am forever grateful to these homies.

Now fast-forward through time. Exhausted, we had just played our first show at a Youth Outreach Center in Tucson for a sound guy and the band that was waiting to perform after us, very punk. Eventually we found a rest stop to camp out at and, with the desert finally at a bearable temperature, the night became quite peaceful. I thought to myself while staring up at the stars, “Damn, how the hell did we even get here? We’re hardly even a real band!”

We are still hardly a band. By this I mean… fuck, I don’t know what I mean. Perhaps I’m just ranting now.

This album was recorded, several times over, during the summer months of 2013 in both the living room of my apartment and Jace’s bedroom. It is our best attempt to present to you a sound that we are all proud of. For myself, these songs document several events, beautiful and tragic, that have occurred during Bat Country’s existence. These songs are not, nor ever will they be, finished.

We can’t stop here… blah blah blahhhh
